How to Use a Vinyl Cutter Properly

A good precision cutter lets you make clean cuts without damaging the liner or the surface:

Pro tip: keep spare blades nearby, especially for large projects.

How to Avoid Bubbles When Applying Adhesive Vinyl

Bubbles usually appear when the surface isn’t properly prepared or the application is rushed:

  1. Clean the surface thoroughly (degreased, dry, and smooth).
  2. Use a soft felt-edge squeegee to prevent scratches.
  3. Apply from the center outward.
  4. Work in small sections for better control.
  5. For persistent bubbles: pierce gently with a fine needle and smooth out.

A bubble-free result depends as much on technique as on using the right tools.

How to Clean and Maintain Your Vinyl Tools

Regular maintenance ensures optimal performance:

Tip: keep your accessories organized in a dedicated storage box to avoid losing small tools.

Can You Use the Same Tools for Adhesive Vinyl and Heat Transfer Vinyl?

There are some similarities but also key differences between adhesive vinyl and heat transfer vinyl (HTV) applications:

AccessoryCompatible with Adhesive VinylCompatible with Heat Transfer Vinyl
Squeegee Yes Yes
Cutter Yes Yes
Gloves Yes Yes
Transfer tape Yes (specific to adhesive vinyl) No (not needed and may interfere)
Heat press No Yes — essential for heat transfers

Note: Vinyl transfer tapes are not suitable for heat transfer vinyl. HTV requires a heat press and does not use transfer film.
